Except for local elections, it will be a quiet year in NH. But that doesn't mean that NH Democrats aren't talking. So what are they talking about? Well, first of all, Judd Gregg's Senate seat. Paul Hodes has already declared he is running, and there are rumors that Carol Shea Porter might be looking. Gregg didn't exactly do himself a favor by accepting and then turning down the Commerce Department post in the Obama administration. Among other things, it led news organizations to take a look at his record, and there have been some interesting tidbits surfacing. This opens up Hodes' seat in the 2nd District, and there are lots of names being thrown around. Stay tuned. Just because it is an off year doesn't mean nothing is going on. There is always redistricting after the census to think about too. Will the Democrats still have a majority in the NH legislature when it comes time to redistrict? |
